Joel Lee Tolle, son of Mary Ann (Snoddy) and Samuel Bell Tolle, was born 13 Jan 1836 in Barren County, Kentucky. He can be found on the 1840-1850-1860 census of Barren County, Kentucky with his parents. He married Mary Virginia Nichols on 21 Oct 1860 in Barren County, Kentucky. Mary Virginia was born about 1837, and was the daughter of Thomas Nichols. Sometime between 1866-1870 they moved to McPherson County, Kansas, and can be found there in the 1870-1880 Federal Census and the 1875-1885 State Census. Joel died 24 Apr 1885 in McPherson County, Kansas.

The children of Mary Virginia (Nichols) and Joel Lee Tolle were:

  • JULIA A. TOLLE8 born 4 Sep 1860 in Barren County, Kentucky. She can be found in the home of her parents in McPherson County, Kansas. First in the 1870 Federal Census and the the 1875 State Census. She was gone from home by 1880, presumably married by then to Amulack Dennis. He was born 6 Dec 1856 in Harrison County, Missouri, son of Adam Dennis. (name spelled Amulek on death certificate) They had 4 children, Ann Dennis; Jenny Dennis; Charles B. Dennis and Alta Dennis. Julia died 3 Nov 1936, and Amulack died 3 Apr 1943, both in Friend, Nebraska.
  • LAURA L. TOLLE8 born about 1862 in Barren County, Kentucky. She was on the 1870-1880 Federal Census and 1875 State Census with her parents in McPherson County, Kansas, but was gone by 1885, presumably married.
  • LOUISE B. TOLLE8 born about 1865 in Barren County, Kentucky; known as Lucy; on the 1870-1880 Federal and 1875 State census with parents and gone by 1885, presumably married; no further info.
  • SAMUEL T. TOLLE8 born about 1868 in McPherson County, Kansas; was on the 1870-1880 Federal and 1875-1885 State Census with parents; no further info.
  • MARY L. TOLLE 8 born about 1872 in McPherson County, Kansas; was on the 1870-1880 Federal and 1875-1885 State Census of McPherson County, Kansas with her parents; no further info.

WILLIAM ALEXANDER TOLLE7 (Alexander Roger6; William5; Roger Jr4; Roger3; Tobias2; Roger1)

William Alexander Tolle, son of Mary Brumboc (Rogers) and Alexander Roger Tolle, was born 6 Oct 1833 in Barren County, Kentucky. He married Frances Ann Matthews on 15 Mar 1855 in Barren County, Kentucky. She was born 21 Feb 1839, the daughter of Ann S. (Peden) and James Matthews. They went to McPherson County, Kansas sometime about 1871. He was on the 1875-1885 State Census and 1880 Federal Census there. William died there 4 Jul 1894 and is buried in the Eureka Cemetery, and Frances Ann died 4 Jun 1917 in McPherson County, Kansas.

  • JAMES ALEXANDER TOLLE8 born 21 Dec 1855 in Barren County, Kentucky; found on the 1880-1900-1910-1910 Federal and 1875-1885-1895 State Census of McPherson County, Kansas; married his cousin Lovie Jane Tolle on 2 Apr 1884; she was daughter of Martha Jane (Ward) & Joseph Turner Tolle, born 23 Feb 1864 in Bartholomew Co IN; they had one child, Edgar Earl Tolle; James died 32 May 1914 and is buried in Eureka Cemetery in McPherson Co KS; Lovie died 17 Aug 1956 in Lakeland, Florida.
  • MARY A. TOLLE8 born 22 Nov 1857 in Barren County, Kentucky and died 19 Feb 1858 at about the age of 3 months.
  • AMANDA ELLEN TOLLE8 born 24 Apr 1859 in Barren County, Kentucky; married before 1880 to Charles Joseph Sheffer; died in the 1940s.
  • ROBERT S. TOLLE8 born 28 Aug 1861 Barren County, Kentucky; he was with his parents in the 1880 Federal Census and 1875-1885 State Census of McPherson County, Kansas; married a woman named Ida before 1885 and had 4 known children, Eda Tolle, Ruth Tolle, William Tolle, & Unice Tolle; He was living Wilson County, Kansas in 1910; died 11 Dec 1915.
  • SUSAN J. TOLLE8 born 24 May 1864 in Barren County, Kentucky and died 9 Jul 1870 in McPherson County, Kansas at about age 6; buried in Eureka Cemetery there.

Samuel Fisk Tolle, son of Mary Ann (Snoddy and Samuel Bell Tolle, was born 2 Jul 1849 in Barren County, Kentucky. He was found consistantly in the Census records, 1850-1860 in Barren County, Kentucky with his parents, the 1870-1880-1900-1910-1920 McPherson County Federal Census and the 1875-1895 State Census in McPherson County, Kansas. He married Lucinda Olive Matthews on 12 Nov 1870 in Saline County, Kansas. She was born 29 Apr 1852, the daughter of Ann S. (Peden) and James Matthews. He was listed as a Pioneer Settler of McPherson County, Kansas and as a farmer and Sheriff. He died 22 Apr 1926 in Roxbury, Kansas. Lucinda died 26 Feb 1936 in Lindsborg, Kansas.

SAMUEL HARVEY TOLLE7 (Alexander Roger Tolle6; William Tolle5; Roger Tolle Jr4; Roger Tolle3; Tobias Tolle2; Roger Tolle1)

Samuel Harvey Tolle, son of Mary Brumboc (Rogers) and Alexander Roger Tolle, was born about 1836 in Barren County, Kentucky. In 1861 he married Nancy A. Sykes in Barren County, Kentucky. Nancy and Samuel had 8 children surnamed TOLLE, who were born between 1865 & 1880. Samuel was found on the Barren County census of 1840 thru 1860. Then in 1880 he and his family were in Allen County, Kentucky. By 1920 they were living in Christian County, Illinois where he is listed as age 84 and Nancy as 76. Their death dates are currently unknown to me.

He was in Allen County, Kentucky in 1880; Christian County, Illinois in 1900; Macoupin County, Illinois in 1910; and Chrisitan County, Illinois in 1920.
  • MARY K. TOLLE8 born about 1868. She was age 12 in the 1880 census of Allen County, Kentucky.
  • JAMES F. TOLLE8 born about 1871, age 9 in 1880 census of Allen County, Kentucky; Wife's name was Julia and they had a daughter named Mary Tolle. They were living in Christiian County, Illinois in 1920.
  • IDA BELL TOLLE8 born about 1873. She was age 7 in the 1880 census of Allen County, Kentucky.
  • ALVISE TOLLE8 born about 1875. He was age 5 in the census of Allen County, Kentucky; wife's name was Delia. He was living in Christian County, Illinois in 1920. He had a grandson named Alvise Fauterhaugle who was age 4 in 1920.
  • MARGARET A. TOLLE8 born about 1877. She was age 3 in the 1880 census of Allen County, Kentucky.
